Moisture, Moisture, Moisture

My friends like to call me a product junkie. Which in reality is probably true, but I am a firm believer in trying many products to find the one that works best for you. We all have different skin types, whether oily or shiny and even hair texture. What works best for me may not work well for you.

My trial and error ways enable me to give some great insight on some of the best products on the shelves right now; some popular and others a quiet secret. Winter is real here in Chicago, so keeping your hair, body, and face moisturized is essential. I want to share 3 of my personal go to products for the face, body, and hair.

FACE-Ultrabland

My girl Jess keeps me abreast on all things beauty. For weeks she was bragging on all the wonderful finds she got at LUSH. She is a stickler for their bath bombs. I’m not much of a bath girl, I’m typically on the run so showers are my thing. However, after a terrible day at work I decided to treat myself and strolled right into LUSH on Michigan Avenue at the bottom of the Water Tower.

Searching for the perfect facial moisturizer for my dry skin, a great beauty advocate allowed me sample Ultrabland. An ultra-gentle beeswax and rose cream cleanser that doubles as a makeup remover is perfect for ALL skin types. Made with soothing rose water, iris flower extract, and honey the skin is left feeling soft and completely nourished. With fresh all natural ingredients, ultrabland is sure to become one of your favorites too.

3 Steps to luxurious skin:

  1. Apply a quarter size amount of ultrabland to entire face
  2. Shower and allow steam to open pores or use a hot towel
  3. Simply wipe off with warm towel.

BODY-Shea Moisture, All Over Hydration Lotion

Most women keep up with mani/pedi’s during the summer, but the cold months are really the time to maintain that routine. Harsh weather causes the skin to dry out and peel. I hate to put lotion on and as soon as I get outside my hands are dry all over again.

I love Shea Moisture’s hair products, here recently though I have come to adore their body products as well. The All-Over Hydration Lotion will leave you smelling and feeling good. Made with 100% coconut oil and organic shea butter with murumuru butter it is rich in moisture, here’s how:

  • Coconut oil is rich in vitamin E and naturally nourishes the skin.
  • Organic shea butter provides even more vitamins and essential fatty acids.
  • Murumuru Butter is rich in Vitamins A and C, Omega fatty acids 3,6,8 and 9, replenishing lost moisture.

Shea Moisture is  family owned and operated company. The ingredients are ethically sourced from women’s cooperatives in Northern Ghana.

HAIR-Carol’s Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey

If your hair is natural like mine, then you know all about the dryness I face on a daily basis. I’m always looking for great products that can give life to my sometimes dull curls. However, with the saturation of the natural hair care market it can be a daunting task to choose the right product with such a plethora of choices.

I always look for natural ingredients, such as shea butter, coconut oil or honey. As I perused the natural aisle at Walgreens as I always do Carol’s Daughter’s products jumped out at me. I have never used nor really been a fan because I felt like the products were not truly for every texture of natural hair. In addition I had heard so many bad reviews. Yet, what I was seeing was completely different from the Carol’s Daughter I saw in the past at Macy’s. It was more simple, direct, and honestly appealing. With natural ingredients at the forefront of the products and a larger offering.

The Mimosa Hair Honey immediately grabbed my attention. The line “for dry, brittle, & textured hair” called my name. Not only does it smell absolutely amazing, but it is packed with the most nourishing ingredients, shea butter, nettles, and sage leaf extract. Not only does it moisturize the scalp, but it smoothes edges, and controls frizz. Top 3 things a natural gal needs! I use it as a daily moisturizer for my son and a scalp oiler for myself.
